The Virginia Country Music Association (VCMA)held their annual awards program yesterday as well as the wreath laying cerimony at the gravesight in Norfolk, Va. honoring the founder of the Grand Ole Opry, George D. Hay.
It is with great delight to announce that last evening my good friend and a staunch supporter of Kenny Dail and family, Jerry Hayes, took the award as instrumentalist of the year award. I personally think he should have taken this award much sooner as his musical knowledge and experience is nothing less than expert at the professional level and has been overlooked for a long time. Jerry, I applaud you and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy and better friend.

I forgot to mention the band award for the Best Band. The band known as Country Gold consisting of Jerry, John (SleepyJohn) Floyd, Linda Hatfield, Russ McMillon (sp) Jeannie Powell and Norman Jarrell. All the members are professionals and as such deserve every award they get. They have most certainly "paid their dues."

Apologies to everybody that were overlooked. I don't seem to have all my stuff in the same bag today.

Thanks for the well wishes and everything. I'm sorry I was sick last night but my daughter brought the award to the house after the show. By the way, for anyone who doesn't know, Mr. Kenny Dail has won this award twice (that's two times) and I'm glad to be in such good company..........I'm glad Country Gold won as it's a good band with Fiddlin' Jeanie and Ol' Sleepy John bringin' up that steady bottom on the bass!

Congratulations to you, Jerry, and to John for your accomplishments. Sounds to me like after all was said and done, there weren't many awards left for anybody else Best, Boomer |

Congratulations to all you guys out there on the East Coast in the VCMA. Is it true about the "rumors" I hear that a super steel show is in the works?
Maybe ole "Sleepy John" is really waking up, and if that is the case---?????

Bill, we sure would like to have a "Steel Jam/Show" but the organizational skills are lacking. I'm sure it would turn in to a good thing for PSG players as well as other musicians. We are still talking 'bout it but just can't get it together.
