I bought two Fender Speaker cabs. that hold 4 speakers in each Cabinet. See picture enclosed!
They were bought because i use alot of older fender speakers, for use in any older amp. The speakers are 1968 Vintage 10 inch, but have a older musty type smell in the basement where i keep them. It bothers the heck out of me, so i thought i would ask other forumites for a way to get the smell removed by using some type of good old fashion trick that someone might have found out thru the years.
They appear to work well, so hate to throw away 40 years of sound!
Anyone with any ideas?

Sonny
Try rubbing a "Bounce" fabric softner
sheet on the speaker. Then just toss
it in the cabinet and leave it.

Thanks Rick; I will try that and see what happens. It cant smell any worse! I have the 10 speakers out of the P.A.cabinets,so i might have to put them back in the cabinets so that the bounce can work! Yes thanks again. |

sonny,
if the bounce doesn't do the job
you might try the old folks remedy
put an open box of baking soda in
the speaker cab.
it sure works
that is if you will not be moving the speakers
around alot |

An old trick we used to use in the car biz was to half or quarter an apple and stick it under the seats. You might try that under an upside-down raw speaker or if you put 'em back in the cabs maybe a slice or two in the back of the cab.
Obviously I'd keep it away from direct contact with the cone. |

Take 'em outside on a dry, sunny day! Oh! Wait! You're in Minnesota. Maybe next summer!('') |
