Has anyone ever played in a place where the sound would ecko back to you where you would lose your place in the song. We use to play at the armory for special dances where I live, The sound would bounce off the walls about four times. It would get so bad that at times we would just stop and start over. We finally refused to take any more jobs there. It was awfull.

Played the Cow Palace in San Francisco a few times back in the 60's when the major rodeos would come through. The echo was horrendous, just like you describe. And the smell .....whew!

You have to turn effects off in places like that. The "natural" ambiance is all that's needed.

Reminds me of the school assemblies at my high school, where they'd be trying to get everybody all hyped up with school spirit over the gym P.A., and you could never tell what the heck they were saying.
