How can you tell I tell if my NV 400 has one of these mod kits on it???????
Please advise.
I was told my Mike McGee that when he bought it from the original owner that it had a mod kit installed but Mike did not know for sure. |

If it has the Lemay mod in it, the IC chips will most likely have paint on them to obliterate the chip types. The Peavey mod does not mask out the IC part numbers. Also, NV400's built after a certain date/serial number already have the tone mod incorporated in the production (I'm not at my PC that has that info so I can't give it to you).
The "intense" mod that Ken Fox has does quite a bit more than the Lemay/Peavey tone mod. |

My mod will have a lot of Sprague Orange drop caps in it. None of the other mods use those.
Here is a picture of an LTD 400 with 5 of the Orange drop caps in it. Next time I do a N-400 I will get a shot to post here.

When Lemay did my Nash 400 at Dallas, he changed the pilot light from red to blue. |

John LeMay did my mod in the early 90's. When I got it back, the power on indicator had a green led....and it sounded beautiful...still does. |

I HAD TWO OF THE FIRST LEMAY KITS INSTALLED HERE IN PORTLAND ORE AND HE INSTALLED A GREEN LIGHT INSTEAD OF THE RED SO WHEN YOU TURNED THE AMP ON IF HE CAME AROUND WHERE AMPS WERE BEING PLAYED HE KNEW IF HIS MOD WAS IN IT. MY FRIEND KENNY MIGHT THINK OF A WAY TO SIGNAL HIS MOD SO IT IS EASY TO CHECK.I TRUST MY BUDDY KENNY I HAVE MADE MANY DEALS WITH HIM.AND HAD A LOT OF GOOD PICKING SESSIONS WITH HIM.I HAVE EVEN OWNED HIS OLD MSA STEEL THREE TIMES. AND NOW HE HAS IT BACK AGAIN.IT IS A SWEET SOUNDING GUITAR.KEN GET OUT HERE AND VISIT US. |

Ken Fox did the mod on my NV400 just recently - it's great! Much nicer sounding than stock. It's so smooth. It broke and needed repair anyway , so I figured I'd try it. I'm quite pleased with the sound now. And Ken's customer service is top notch. Highly recommended, if you like the NV400, you'll like it even more with this mod.

Well the amp sounds so different after the mod I did not think it needed any ID!
Seriously, you can run one with the EQ knobs all at 12:00 o'clock and still get a good tone. That's a good check to see if it has the mod. There is lot less mid range honk and a crisp high end. The reverb mod is also very noticeable.
It's a good thing!
Still, it may be a good idea to do something!! I will try to visit my local print shop after I get back from vacation about a metal badge of some sort.
I have spreadsheet with a list of all the mods I have done so far, around 60 amps. If I can come up with something I will send it out to all who have had the mod done. |
