Topic: My Fender 800 and a few questions |

I took a chance and purchased this steel sight unseen apart from a few pics on the net. It's a '65 Fender 800, 3 pedal and 1 knee lever. Decent condition, everything works. It was refinished, I believe and it has sat unused for about 10 years. Any suggestions on cleaning and lubing?
I'm stoked about being able to set this thing up the way I want, rather than a fixed E9 setup. I would, however, like to add another pedal and possibly a right knee lever. Any suggestions on where I might these parts or go for answers? I have seen a few threads but was a little confused after reading through them.

Mike, another knee is pretty easy - in fact, easier than on just about any guitar. Do a couple of searches, look at the pics in the old threads and then email me - it'll help if you've seen soem example first.
Pedals are another story. The older chrome types are quite common, and one forum member can make rods for them; but the black ones are very hard to findd as Fender was fading out of the steel arena by the time they went to the short-scale models. I've ben trying to find a solution - and I really think the most sensible one is to replace ALL the pedals..and a new one, or however many you want - of the same type, made by a current manufacturer. The hooks on ost rods seem to fit, so it's a matter of mounting pedals on the pedal bar. It won't look original - but that's the breaks; with these guitars you have to adapt to keep them running, and it's WELL worth adapting! I have not yet checked mounting on other pedal types...the only thing I have that's modern is a GFI Ultra, and I'll see how it looks. But I would not see a big hassle (other than some expense) replacing pedals/rods with newer ones.
Hope that helps a bit - as I said, shoot me an email after you dig up some of the pics...I just made knees for my 1000 and I have NO real machinist tools nor any machining experience....just a $40 Big Lots drill press, some hand tools and some thinking beforehand....

I'm really glad I bought this guitar, as I've already taken it apart, cleaned it and reconfigured the copendant to something that I think will work for me. I love the fact that it's so easy to work with and experiment. Thanks Donny Hinson for pointing this out to me.
My only regret is that I wish I had another pedal or two. Right now, I'm using the closest approximation to the Mooney copedant I can with the 3 pedals and 1 knee, except for his lower end, which I've taken liberties with.
