HA! I bet that got your attention...
Some yahoo is parting out a VERY minty champ lap of ebay. He's got the Body in one acction, the pick-up plate in another, the tuning keys in another, and the nut in a final one. The pick-up is probably out there somewhere too.
This makes me a bit ill, today, I cry.
Auction on eBay.
Ya know, people do this to vintage harley Davidsons too, they are worth more in pieces than whole, original bikes. It's SOOO wrong, and make me want to punch things.
But, anyway, I thin kthis guy is making a mistake, I bet it'd be worth more whole, in this case.
What do you guys think? Should we look for a tall tree?? |

That seller has 76 items for sale, all parted out from old and vintage instruments.
Maybe he takes things apart and can't figure out how to put them back together. |

He has done this in the past. When I email him about my concerns, I never get a reply. I guess no answer is his answer. |

I wonder if he's the guy who stripped my 280 SL recently?

I sent him a VERY nice email, not mean at all, and this was his reply:
I like destroying fine instruments. I think it's groovy. Besides, I can't stand Leo.
Thanks,
RN
What a tool!
I told him I'd give him $450 for it if he put it back together. |

Rod's Guitars in Memphis. Rod "parts out" everything. He has run thousands of aBay auctions for rare vintage guitar parts. I doubt he has ever sold a complete guitar.
I purchased a couple of vintage parts from Rod in past years to complete my 1968 Telecaster. I like to think that the parts came from a "parts guitar", not from a complete usable '68 Tele. In general, I do Not condone tearing apart a complete working guitar and selling off the parts. As a buyer however, I was thrilled and thankful to find these rare '68 Tele parts. I had been looking for over a year. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

I totally agree w/ you Doug, but this guitar was complete, unless he just happened to get the body, tuners, and pick-up plate separately.
Crazy world. |

I'm actually interested in buying a 6 or 8 string fender lap.. that's why I was looking.
I'ts just a shame that people do this, like doug Said, it's greed. Yeah, it's their stuff to do what they will with it, but that dosent make it cool.
There's a limited number of things like that, and one in that condition dosen't deserve to be parted out by some yokel.
That's all I'm saying... |

Last year I contacted the new owner of a vintage piece that sold on Ebay and told him I was interested in an accessory that was sold along with a very clean '51 Dual Pro and the buyer said he bought it to part it out. I explained to him that while I could see his reason, This instrument had made it all in one piece through all the years with one owner and that he would find that there is a market for such pieces without parting them out.
A few months later he sold it - complete, still together. One small victory maybe, but it was worth the effort. _________________ Time flies like an eagle

So the guy got about $260 for all the parts.
He did better than I thought he would, I must say
What a shame, What do you guys think that guitar would have been worth sold as a unit? must be more than $260, It was pretty mint.

There is a sense of loss when these get parted out, but there is a benefit; there are a lot of partially original instruments out there, and if a guy can complete a guitar with the parts then it is not necessarily a bad thing. I still think it's bad business, as illustrated by the final tally of the parts- the guitar could have fetched $400. |
