Anyone using Line 6 tone port here? Which amp model is good for steel?Suggested settings?
Sounds great with guitar, but so far all the amp models I tried with steel sound like butt. |

Joe, as you have come to learn, most if not ALL of the effects units that we all run out and buy are NOT Steel friendly , BUT..they can be made to be very STEEL friendly.
ALL of these units are intended for Guitar players aged 13 to 17 ...it makes them sound like they are much older, perhaps 18...
You're gonna have to put in some seat time and learn how to experiment, EDIT and Save to a User patch.
Think about the real world
Fender twins, preamps, Speakers etc..
Clean preamp, clean amp
reverb, delay..
These units are all fairly similar in what they offer..
When I edit patches I use the N400 settings as my stock start point.
Take ANY of the patches and edit one...
If you have the option of a Fender Twin with 2 x 12's start there..
using the 1 to 100 scale for settings..
Clean preamp setting at about 40 or 50
Bass 60
mid 30
Treble 60
presence 60
Reverb HALL 2.0 sec @ maybe 25 or 30
Delay , single slap around 350 ms @ 35 or 40
Compressor sustain 35, attack 50 gain 50
Turn off everything else in the patch...
Save the patch into the USER bank .
Not knowing the unit in question, the settings above should be relatively close to get started with. But you are going to have to put in some seat time.
good luck

Hi Joe, I use a toneport UX2.
The roland jazz chorus amp model is good for psg.
Drive (gain) on 0, volume on 10, some reverb...I dont have it in front of me or I'd just read you my settings.
There is a horribly arranged mess of a site called line 6 custom tone
http://line6.com/customtone/
If you scroll down a bit and select tones for the podxt (they work for toneport but may substitute amps and or effects) and do a search for "steel" you will find many user made tones specifically for "steel guitar"...some you may like, some not...but you can get an idea of what others are doing to construct their tones.
edit: I just searched for "steel" there and once you hit page two (page one is filled entirely with "worship guitar tone" repeats) you start seeing lots of useful looking pedal steel tones from forum members here like Brad Sarno, Jack Stoner and others....
Ive actually gotten some very useful tones from the custom tone site but you do have to wade thru multiple pages of repeated tones to find what you are after. |
