Thanks for the name. Fortunately I talked with Zane King last night. Don Fritchie (owner of BMI) and I are working on trying to get photos of Zane Beck. Here is who I have talked to so Far:
1. Zane King
2. Dan Rollins
3. Randy Terry
4. Graham Griffith
5. Terry Wood
Thanks for the kind comments about the BMI Steels. Don kept the company going after Zane Beck died. After Zane's death, Don didn't push the company like Zane did. Don has been with the company since 1970 and became the owner after Zane died. Thanks again for the kind comments.

Well, I was not a student of Zane Beck but if you ever go looking for guys who Zane befriended in a huge way then I am certainly one of those. I have told the story many times of the trade out deal Zane made me for a D10 in exchange for me building him a set of cabinets for his lake cabin. It was a straight across trade, he would pick up the cabinets and take them and install them himself in exchange for the guitar set up just the way I wanted it. In about two weeks I got home from the cabinet shop to find in my living room a beautiful D10, cords, volume pedal, new bar and picks and a Dalton Stone Pony amp with a D130 JBL 15" speaker. In addition on different occasions he gave me my first effects unit which was an Electra Analog Delay unit and gave me strings from 1980 until his passing. He was the most generous guy I ever knew in the steel guitar world. A few years later I did get a chance to build another set of cabinets for him which helped me get some closer to squaring with him. I miss him very much. Oh, another student of Zane was Blake Fouserouse (spelling not even close, I'm sorry Blake). He lives in Rogers, Arkansas. I believe Eddie Snow at the Ozark Mountain Hoedown in Eureka Springs Arkansas would know how to contact Blake.

Jerry, you mentioned the Dalton Stone Pony. I haven't seen one of those in years. Last I heard Bob Dalton was living around Little Rock. He built some really super clean amps.

Hi Dan,
Jerry Roller's right Blake was one of Zane's understudys. Randy Beavers spent a bunch of time with Zane too.
As you know I knew Zane and played two of his 12 stringers and the 14 stringer he and Don built for me back in 1984, well, I am still playing it.
Don Fristche built a fabulous 10 stringer BMI for my youngest boy Zane Wood (named after Zane Beck) this summer.
Like my good friend Jerry Roller, I sure miss Zane too. He was just such a great guy and was a real super player too.
I got a few pics of Zane Iam going to send you soon. I ain't forgot you.

| Seems like some of the people Zane Beck helped so much would be, not just willing, but VERY anxious to jump in and do everything possible to extend the legacy of this obviously Good man, great steel player and ahead of his time innovator! People like Zane King and Blake Fougerousse and who knows how many others. I know Jerry Roller and Graham Griffith and maybe others I'm not aware of have freely posted and they're to be commended. Dan, doesn't Don Fritche have some pictures and knowledge of some of Zanes former students? |

Sonny,
he does, the only thing is when Zane moved to Little Rock, Don continued to keep the factory there in Scranton. Zane would submit orders and Don would fill them.
What we are trying to do is get as much informaton that these guys did with the tuning. I know Garland Harris in Little Rock and Zane worked on some material.
I'm currently working with Zane King and have received a teaching tape which I'm tabbing out.

Randy and Zane Beck were close, in fact I believe Randy and Tommy White were featured on a company brochure. I'm not sure if Randy study under Zane.
