 I have no idea why Tommy hasn't been appearing on the St. Lewis Steel Show; I'm certain there are good reasons, but I am a firm believer that our Tommy would be the best on any stage. If management does not care to invite Tommy to the St. Lewis show; that is their loss. We will all love Tommy for his excellent talent, no matter where he is appearing.You're the Best , Tommy..Bernie

I am surprised to hear that Tommy White was not perforrming on the ISGC stage. He certainly should be there, but maybe he had too many commitments with the GOO.
I had an old LP of his many many years ago. He was just a kid then, but really good....al.

Tommy White rips...I just bought his E9 video and it blows me away what the guy can do (though I'm just a beginner so I guess that's not saying much ).
Can anyone tell me what channel/time the Opry comes on? I'm in So. California, Cox Cable...
I'd like to check out Tommy's playing in his natural habitat. |

Tommy (on video) taught me that neat method of soloing in the AB position two frets up from the root fret, starting on string 9. This little pocket has opened up a whole new world of soloing for me. And up until I learned Tommy's 10-9-8-6 rock and roll comping licks, I was usually left staring blankly when we did Chuck Berry or Carl Perkins tunes. Thanks for the help, Tommy!

Same for me - Tommy WAS there the last time I was able to attend ISGC and, as usual, he set the Gold Standard for technique, taste and musicality.
Of course, it's fantastic that we can still get to see Buddy, Doug and the small handful of acknowledged Masters at these events, but these guys are semi-retired - TW is still earning his living, so steel shows must take second-place, I would imagine. It's all speculation on my part, I know, but I'm sure there's some substance to it.
My opinion? Tommy White is my very favourite currently-'active' player. Like the previous poster, I've learned an enormous amount from studying his approach. Hopefully it'll be at least twenty years before the Powers-That-Be at the Opry decide that he, too, is getting too old.....

Chris-I hope all E9 players know that what you learned from Tommy. We used that AB position starting on the D note two frets up from the Root. That is so good for Modern type chords. Say if you are in G on the third fret no pedals that position up two frets is GMaj7. Imagine that on E9 yet. So a lot of stuff there.I am glad to hear that you are into it.....al.

Yes, Al, that was a real eye-opener for me. Didn't even see it there before Tommy pointed it out. It's a great pocket and comes in handy, particularly on the I-IV transition when you go 9-8-7-6- and then up one fret on string 5 to avoid the major 7, then step back down two frets on string 5, and enter the IV chord one more fret down landing in the standard AB position. Awesome stuff!
