Kay sent us another great tune! Looking forward to hearing Kay at Joliet 2007!
Here's Kay's commentary:

Although Cuban music is nowadays best known around the world for the "Buena Vista Social Club", it is a land of much music at the crossroads and much musical talent. This tune, "La Comparsa", which translates roughly to "Carnival Parade" was written in 1929 by the late Ernesto Lecuona, much admired in his country. It has been performed and interpreted in different styles( ballad, jazz, rhumba, tango...) by a number of artistes ranging from Perez Prado and Carlos Barbosa-Lima, to Placido Domingo and many others
Here is my version on steel guitar, backing guitar and keyboard/percussion accompaniment by Göran Tångring. Key of C#m/Emaj, played on West Coast C6th tuning.
I would like to dedicate this tune to my "braddah", and ace steel guitarist, Jeff Au Hoy. |

That's a home run! An outstanding piece of musicianship and choice of music. Nothing sounds like a non pedal steel except a non pedal steel. |

Hi Kay,
Nice arrangement. I love the steel with the lush background. Your tune reminds me of Jerry Byrd's Romantic Steel Guitar, a recording he did in Japan.
Say hi to our friends in Joliet. I hope to make it next year.

Grateful for the appreciation.
Does anyone know of other Cuban songs that might sit well on steel guitar?
Feedback from an Italian forum where this tune is also posted....looks like there are great musicians on the island:
"
Hi Kay,
it's a pleasure to listen to you again. I do love Cuban music, my wife is Cuban and I have been lucky to be there several times: they're great musicians.
