Yes, it is a square neck. I have no idea what the JC means other than the person it was orginally made for. The JC is inlaided mother of pearl. |

I could be wrong but this may be a "Shot Jackson Custom" which was a deluxe limited production model of the Sho-Bro hence the "J C" (Jackson Custom) on the headstock would seem to fit |

Joe and Paul,
Shot made special guitars for a select few steel players, with the steel players initials in mop on the headstock.
I wonder if perhaps this might have been the one Shot built for Jimmie Crawford? |

The fretboard is different. Not the usual Sho-Bud playing card markers.... |

The fret board looks like the ones used on the Jerry Bird Fry pan's . I can't make out the letters . Old age . Poor eye sight . RT |

Nice of The Great Tommy W to chime in here with his knowledge on this one-He has the greatest job in the world! Sounds crazy but in my bedroom pickin' Sho-Bud playin' teen years my wildest dream was to play steel on the GOO-I long since gave up that dream-But being Weldon's backstage guest (and seeing TW there) was the closest I ever came to it (and I will gladly settle for that) |

|
|
This one belonged to the late great Jeff Newman.Upon closer examination I found some significantly different design specs..including a more "dreadnought" body shape and location of the resonator and sound holes. Duane Marrs has one virtually identical to this one, neither has initials on the headstock, whereas Eddie Gossien, a long-time friend, has one identical to the above example(also a 7-string) which bears the initials "B.S." for Bobbe Seymour, the original recipient/owner.So the initials probably reflect the original player that owned it.Respectfully submitted for the record/personal interest. RK

My Sho Bro looks exactly like the one you said belonged to Jeff Newman. No letters on mine, but Shot did build the guitar for me.. I love it..Bernie _________________ 2007 Zum S-10; 1967 Sho-Bud [ D-10 ]; 85 S-10 Sierra; 1953 Multi-Kord [ 6 String- 4 pedals ] A Sho-Bro six String Resonator Guitar; Nashville 112 Amp; hilton Vol. Pedal |
