| I have a recording of this tune by Herb Remington..does anybody know where I can find the sheet music for this tune...it is the most Hawaiian sounding tune I've ever heard. |

The music,lyrics, and chords can be found in this new book on Lena Machado by Pi'olani Motta, called Songbird of Hawaii, My Memories of Aunty Lena.
Pi'olani is an adopted child of Lena's.
Lena is one of the super singing stars from Hawaii. She wrote this song in 1946 after a trip to Hilo on the Big Island.
I would strongly recommend getting the book. The price was about $25.00 but with all the great music, photo's and biography, it's well worth the price.
Cord International also has put something together on CD on Lena if you haven't got it yet. Great steel playing by Sol Ho'opii and Billy Hew Len.

| Hi Derrick, Thank you for your great reply..I would be happy to get the book, do you know where I could send the money to obtain the book...I really like that song and have learned it by ear but I always like to have the sheet music available as a backup.. BTW, that song fits nicely on the E9th tuning. |

This book is a biography of Lena's life as told by the author/adopted daughter whom accompanied Lena on most of her gigs.
It's a 207 page book with many photo's. There are 30 of her songs in music notation with the lyrics and the chords, and a written story about each.

| Hi Derrick, Thank you, my good friend, for taking so much of your time to help me in my quest. I ordered the book from Barnes and Noble and they will ship it out on Tuesday..the cost with shipping and taxes is $30.68 but will be well worth the price. Thank you for the detailed information..I will have a lot of fun learning some of the songs in the book but what better way to spend one's time than being with good Hawaiian Music..that's really what the Steel is all about IMHO. |

| Hi Derrick, Just a note to let you know that I received my book "Songbird of Hawaii". One of my favorites is "Nonosina", never heard it before but it sounds great right from the sheet music...do you have any favorites from the 30 song list? Thanks again for bringing this book to my attention and like you said it is worth every penny of the cost. You had mentioned that these songs were also recorded...is there any way I can get the recordings? |

Glad you enjoyed the book.
Very difficult for me to select a favorite from Lena as all her songs were excellent. She was just a super musician and song writer.
One mistake in the book though, on page 204. The author lists the 3rd person from the left in the photo (playing the acoustic steel) as Lilly Nawahine.
This is my grandmothers sister who was the 1st women to play the steel, even before Annie Kerr. Her name was Ida (Kukahiko) Alicante.
I have a couple photo's of her, one in 1925 with an acoustic on her lap with her group, and one taken in the 30's with a very young Lena Machado.
She did a lot of touring in the mainland playing Hawaiian music. One of my mother's sisters are named after her.

Hi Derrick, I made that correction in the book on page 204 and thanks for the link. Hawaiian music sounds so good on my New Williams Steel...don't know why but it just never sounded as good on my Mullen. I have a Wallace Truetone pickup on the Williams and the Williams has a metal neck instead of the wood neck. The Williams just has more bite and fuller tone than the Mullen. Thanks again.
