What would you do with a clean slate on a PP 12 string go with the Baucum Uni or do an extended E9. What would make sense with Ex e9 to add some more of the c6 feel.
Would you incorporate the Franklin on pedal one. Would you use the LKV for a -Bb or a F# raise? What would you put on pedals 5,6,7? Let me know what you think while I attempt to set up this PP.

This is my guitar
And this is the setup

It's a slight variation from the 'standard' U-12 E9/B6 but I can guarantee it works on a push-pull -- very well I might add. Very Happy

What is the Baucum uni tuning? I think Jeff Newmans uni tuning great. I guess there will never be "standard" uni tuning,,,as in satndard E9 or standard C6.

Well, I'm quite flattered that I have a tuning named after me! It's just a variation of an E9/B6 Universal tuning that I came up with for my old Emmons p/p.

In my opinion, Scott, a player with no particular interest in C6 would probably do better with an Ext. E9 12 string---presumably this person is an E9 player and there's less unfamiliarity and no compromise involved with the ext.

But since you are interested in C6, the Uni seems to make all the sense in the world. Larry B's experience with it, in fully loaded all-pull glory and in the more stripped down p/p application that he shows here, makes for a valuable contribution to your inquiry. (I play a loaded Uni 12 and also have a p/p with very near the same setup as Larry---not by coincidence. I bought it from someone who he helped with the setup.)
Anyway--while Uni is not an automatic choice for 12 string, I'd suggest that it is the logical choice for you.

I have a p/p 12-string that I was in the process of converting from Ext. E9 to E9/B6 uni when I got an all pull uni and put the p/p on hold temporarily. The setup I prefer is much like Larry's, but I only have one LKR (D). Like Paul Franklin I prefer the E raise and lower on different knees for smoother changes. I would definitely add a C# raise to the 12th string. That gives you the minor root with the A pedal. I also like to raise that bottom E along with the top two on LKL. I mean, what's the point of having those low strings with no E9 changes on them? The LKV is a matter of personal preference. I like a raise to G/G# on strings 1 and 7. It's a Doug Jernigan change that comes in handy in blues, rock and jazz. But many players like the Bb change there.

If it's a single neck, for me, extended E9 is the only way to go. Keep in mind, that's for ME. If you want more of the 6th stuff, commit yourself to learning and staying with a universal tuning. I've heard some amazing players using several different versions. I like the C6 tuning as well, thats why I own several D12 guitars as well as S12 E9 guitars.

There are some other Universal tunings here:

I would also look into what Bill Stafford is doing (anyone got a link to Bills setup?), as well as the Bb6th guys like Reece Anderson and David Wright, as the Bb6th copedant can also be tuned to B6/E9 Universal.
