John, yes Radio Shack has what you need anywhere from about $25 up..Most "multi meters" today are digital auto rangeing and easy to use..

Buddy, there are several "humbuckers" made by BL and GL that are excellent quite/noiseless pickups.

However, in my opinion all current attemps at making the humbuckers sound like a single coil leave ...

Jason, yes single coil pickups are more prone to hum than humbuckers..However,I have many players using them in both studio playing and live on stage.

Probably 95% of my customers tell me the noise/ ...

Howard, I am pretty sure thats one of Bruce's stock single coils..Mine and Bruce's look very simular except Randy is correct about the white ring around each magnet where I counter sink it a bit..

TC, No I have not considered building a humbucker..I have used just about all of the PSG humbuckers on the market.
They are all very well made and "state of the art" in design.

TC, I feel the "Ideal" way to cope with the positives and negatives of single coil and humbucking pickups is one of two things:

1.Have two PSG's fitted with each type.

Tony,it dosent work that way..A "dual tap" single coil pickup is very different than a "dual coil" humbucker.

The dual taps used to be popular back in the 1960's and 70's..Some pickups even had 3 tap ...

John, closer is not always "better"..Most pickups do best about 1/8" thats about 2 quarters if you have some pocket change, on the 1st string and about 3/16" thats about 3 quarters on the 10th or for ...

Robert, yes you have learned a valuable lesson..Make a diagram of all wiring before unsoldering anything..

The lead wire on just about all pickups now days is white..It usually has 7 to 12 small wire ...
