Thanks for the correction, everyone. It was sold to me as a 1971 so I just took the seller’s word for it. It does have a Black Widow speaker FWIW.

Sam, is it possible that due to the angle of the pull rod, it's pushing the finger towards the "wall?" Maybe try routing the hook from the other side. Else, for general metal-to-metal contac ...
