I'm seeing return springs and what looks like scissors. Every one I ever saw was pull/release. This one sure looks all-pull. |

I'd check for chassis ground on the tone pot. Remove pot, look at the mating surfaces, clean and sand lightly.
The cap might be dying, as well. They're cheap. |

Is there a serial number stamped in the endplate?
The brackets look a little crude to my eyes. I'd bet (but not a lot) that it's a homebuild. |
