There is also a resistor in series with the cap,10k I think,on mine the tone pot is quite subtle and the CC pickup is very bright.Possibly remove the resistor that should give more response to the ton ...

I just had to rebuild one of mine ,make a new bobbin and rewind.
I put 10,000 turns of 42 wire it came up 8.9k a bit short the other original reads 9.8k.
Oddly enough it sound pretty close but a lit ...
