I see no reason a fanned scale wouldn't work on a steel guitar. Possibly very well.

On the steel I'm almost always on one of two seats: An armless office chair beside the computer or a piano bench.

Neither one is ideal, but the piano and the computer are my best teachers.

Thanks for sharing that Terry. I think I'll order a set, the picks I'm using now start to get painful after about 20 minutes.

I highly recommend the "Slant Bar Practice" tabs posted on Rick's site. Most of them are for C6/A7 tuning, but all you have to do is raise the 6th string a half step to C#.
