Thanks very much, Brad. I looked at the thread - I bet the reason that person is having trouble is that they're trying to fit the words of the verses to the music of the chorus. Anyway, shalom and dan ...

I'm looking for the original yiddish lyrics for this one. Not the English Andrews sisters version - that's easy. I did find this great performance of it on YouTube

Maybe it depends on how you read. A lot of people read notation as if it were a form of tablature - a dot on the page equals a location on the instrument. That works well for the piano, fairly well on ...

I usually don't admit this, but privately there have always been two kinds of music for me: Bach, and everything else.

It can be brutal if you're playing solo and they're not into it. Even in a duo, you can always enjoy each other.

I can read pretty well, but on steel it would be more just the melody, and faking the chords from a lead sheet. For a fancy solo arrangement, I might be better off with tab.

I did my homemade acoustic conversion with parallel strings and I kind of like it. I learned on a classical guitar, so it seems more normal on any instrument.

Why so some pople think it's necessa ...

I'm wondering how you use that low string. Thinking of it as an A#, you've got a sort of F# major/minor tuning.

Jerry Byrd's C Diatonic doesn't include the D string, probably because of the tuning conundrum it would have introduced.

I've heard that, and I think I see the problems - you couldn't use the D w ...

The "open string" scale of pedal harps is Cb major (sounds like B major, of course).

Move any pedal up one notch, and all the pitches are raised one half step, so if you move them all up ...

Most people would probably say 6 strings is a good first choice, both for play ...
