It was just for cosmetic and cleaning reasons. I can see it is not worth the effort.

It's a great guitar but I won't be trying to remove them.

The age of the guitar is not an issue. They are all very well built.

I could never get a tone I wanted with stock pups. This one has the big SS pup and I'm sure was not on the guitar when built.

The problem was the cross shaft on the pulls for the 4th and 8th string. It was in a bind and would not return properly.
