Don't know what the symptoms would be & it's unlikely this would be one, but make sure the retaining nuts are tight on all the jacks.

Some regular guitar vp’s have the jacks in front instead of the side. You can’t set it as close to the pedal bar. This is perhaps more important on a S10 steel guitar.

AND if that is a set collar, it may be too big I diameter (thick) & catch on the next finger although your description doesn’t indicate that.

I always hate to do it but I have used a little round burr or stone in a Dremmel and smoothed up the hole it the tuner. (Reminds me too much of the the dentist).

Also Mullen has some instructions on how to install a 3rd string. Not sure where I saw them. Maybe on their site. If you can’t find them, call Mike, he’ll help.
