I agree that the deluxe 34 are top notch, BUT if you plan on doing a lot of playing standing up pony up for the 4 leg version.
Mine is fine sitting down but gets a bit tippy when fully extended for ...

Do you angle the fretboard away from you (towards the audience) when you play standing?
Seems like I'm able to have flatter (more comfortable) wrist angle thst way.

I have a chinese Asher electro Hawaiian jr. Good enough for me.
Wish i could afford a real Asher but I really enjoy mine. Only problem was the zipper broke on the case.

The freedom picks are supposed to go OVER your fingernail unlike standard metal finger picks.
I use them for frailing banjo never tried them on steel.

Patience is the most important thing to learn.
Also I agree with Allen pick a tuning and practice the hell out of it. I use open G dobro tuning for everything.

Try a boss Katana combo amp.
All the Boss effects are contained in the amp plus you can add and edit effects from your computer.
