Dang - I just reread the Sullivan article, and it said the BRIDGE was Ebony, but didn't specifically reference the saddle.

Sorry 'bout that bit of mis-information...

Now I'll be wondering about ...

From what I've read, that's an ebony saddle KJP was using.

He had also stepped away from the two-piece capo to a smaller piece of ebony with a fret on the top.

Compensated or not, I really dig this steel.

I don't see how a compensated saddle would compromise tone in any way, and it looks wicked cool - I dig the dual 'guards.

I'd argue that Fahey is more 'contemporary' than Joaquin Phoenix or Jerry Byrd.

I wouldn't call Fahey a contemporary - he died in 2001. His early work on lap steel was very influential.

I'd agree that Kelly Joe Phelps is....he doesn't seem to play much lap steel currently, wh ...
