The "dogleg" bar slant is a must, but also consider tuning your lowest A to Bb, instead. Some good chordal possibilities besides the standard 7th chord.

I keep mine tuned to Emajor for David Lindley type stuff, but found that it does real well for some of the Xmas stuff we did this season: Christmas on Christmas Island and Mele Kalikimaka.
