Rick, I use an Ezzee Slide polymer bar on pedal steel and have no issues with it. I've found the best way to keep the bar polished is to use Autosol Aluminum polish.

BJS makes a John Hughey bar which I really like.
If I'm not mistaken, with the John Hughey bar, the 15/16th bar weighs the same as a 7/8"
bar.
